Positivity.

Everything about this tour so far has been drenched in positivity. We are just gearing up to make the drive to Amarillo to meet back up with the Heyday for the last official show of the tour. I know I made a pact to keep video blogs coming, and I have been keeping up with footage. I just haven’t had a solid couple of hours to sort through it all. Today is our only off day, so rest assured I’m gonna dig in and get some stuff out there by tomorrow. A quick recap of the last few days…

Arlington is a pretty amazing town. We showed up at a nice little cafe called Java Jo’z. The staff there is terribly kind, and it turns out the room is a blast to sing in. This was one of the few shows this tour we played all acoustically, and it wound up being one of the most fun. This part of Arlington didn’t have all that much going on in the way of foot traffic, so the show wasn’t all that busy. The Heyday played, then we played, and we bid each other adieu for a few and they made their way to Austin to enjoy a few days on 6th St. We decided to stay at the venue to see if we could maybe get a couple of the late night karaoke-ers to buy some stuff while they were there. What followed can only be described in video (of which there is plenty). Stay tuned on that one.

Afterwards, we crashed in a hotel by the airport and prepared for what would be a long next day. We woke up the next day at 7am. I went down to get some free breakfast before we departed for Six Flags Over Texas. We arrived at around 9am and got to drive the truck through an empty park. It kind of felt like we were in a zombie movie. In short, we had a blast playing 3 half hour sets on a sweet outdoor stage, met a ton of new friends, and got a bit of sun on what amounted to be a picture-perfect spring day. We were given free ride passes by the management but were too tired from being out in the sun all day, so we just opted for food and drinks at a couple of local establishments. We then split up and I wound up singing a few tunes at a local open mic before we called it a night.

Life is good.

I’m sitting at the Eastbound and Found outdoor concert right now. It’s 3:30pm, and the full-scale weirdness that is South By Southwest has been on for two days.
I’ve eaten BBQ, cheese, chicken, tacos, and beer over the last two days. I think I drank a Monster this morning, but I have music festival amnesia.
Saw the Damnwells last night at Paradise. They were on, and everyone loved them. Solid, solid band. Got a disc with two new tracks on it, which are great. Trying to catch Andrew W.K., GZA, and of course, CAVASHAWN tonight. Haven’t seen them play in a few days since Houston, so I’m about to get my Rad Bromance fix. God only knows what State & Madison have been doing in Dallas the last two days, but we’ll catch them back in Amarillo tomorrow.
That’s all from me for now. I’m going to go find a turkey leg and some Lone Star. See you on 6th Street. I’ll be the guy dressed like a total douche. Oh, wait………

i apologize for my lack of tumblr updates…the past few days have been pretty intense. we played java jo’s in arlington 2 days ago…which was amazing. and what was even more amazing? once the venue closed, it became a karaoke jam! there is lots of video to follow. lets just say nickolas won hearts of many with his boyz 2 men jam, and i rapped baby got back. yes…pretty awesome. then yesterday we played at six flags over dallas. AMAZING. made some awesome new friends…by the end of the 3rd set, i was wore out. we ended up skipping rides and opted to meet up with some friends of our tour photographer chris mullins. we went to grab some chinese, then ended up at a punk rock bar, that apparently for st. patty’s day is filled to the brim with bro’s and chicks showing their boobs for beads. pretty intense. at that point we split up…some of us going to an open mic, and some of us going to a bar down the street to see a Cure tribute band. i partook in the Cure tribute band. great times, and met a bunch of new amazing people. even found out that we share mutual friends. its funny how that happens sometimes when you are hundreds of miles away from eachother.

we are currently in the truck heading to amarillo. today is our only day off on this whole tour, so we’re just gonna drive into amarillo then relax a bit. the weather in texas is gorgeous right now. there will be some bigger storms in our general area on saturday morning, so im pretty excited about that. tornado season has commenced, and i will be in the perfect spot in the country. who has two wiggley thumbs and is excited?? THIS GUY!

I somehow feel that I entered some kind of funky time warp from the very moment I entered the city of Houston, TX. The club, Super Happy Fun Land, was something that I couldn’t quite understand as soon as I walked in. You will understand more what I’m saying when some video surfaces of the show. Scott Salmon and Nickolas ended up wearing dresses. Pete ended up with an 80’s cher wig on, with glasses, and a drumstick being used as some sort of non-girthey male body part. I had a big tiger doll next to my mic stand at one point. There were cats everywhere, and the most schizophrenic between band music I have ever heard. They had chili, which I heard was good. I opted to wait til we got food after the show.

We ended up at Flying Saucer in downtown Houston on a referral from our tour photographer, Chris Mullins. This place was a blast. Good food. Good beer. Awesome people. We ended up being the last ones in the bar, as usual. Then on the way back to the truck we ran into Josh from Galveston, or “G-Town” as he kept referring to it. He had consumed some adult beverages that evening, and since we had as well, Nickolas thought we should conversate and try to sell this bro some music. Well, we didn’t end up selling him anything, BUT what ensued was something of bro-tacular proportions. Again, video to follow. I will say this tho…his shirt ended up being off by the end of the video and he just kept saying “G-Town”.
